What is a Quality System?

A quality system is the method an organisation uses to make sure that the services it

provides are delivered as intended and meet the needs and expectations of stakeholders.

The processes that guide the way that things are done by a service provider are a key

part of its quality system.

These processes direct the activities of management and staff:

What is to be done?

When it is to be done?

How it is to be done?

For whom it will be done?

and by whom it will be done?

Most service providers believe that they provide a good service. However, it may be

hard to show this if they do not have an effective quality system. An effective quality

system includes systems and processes to:

• clearly identify the needs and expectations of stakeholders
• plan and deliver the agreed services/products
• check that the services/products delivered meet stakeholders’ needs and expectations
• check that the services/products delivered are reliable & of a consistently high standard
